Around the World in 80 Days – ish!

4th, 5th and 6th December 2025, at 7:30pm, Quorn Village Hall

Around the World in 80 Days is Jules Verne’s best-known classic. Though both of its time and ahead of it, adapting it for today needs some tweaks. True to its creative spirit, the NQSC has crafted an energetic new take with Phineas Blogg’s global adventure.

The story starts in London, where Phineas meets his companions at the Reform Party, sorry, Club. This NQSC Christmas show takes a satirical turn, featuring familiar time-travelling characters like Boris, Maggie, Rachel, Nigel, and Kier. Phineas Fogg bets he can travel around the world in 80 days.

The author, Jules Verne, was so far ahead of his time we think that he could have dreamt up a global navigation system to assist his hero. So, enter a new companion – Sat Nav! An AI character with ambition…Another of the band of travellers is Passepartout – very, very French and owing much to Monty Python. Their every move is dogged by the determined baddie, Inspector Fixit. Boo, hiss! A beautiful girl joins the travellers in India, but she is a very much a young woman of our time – a backpacking fighter with no need of rescue. Quite the reverse, in fact.

By rail, steamer and balloon the intrepid five cross continents, meeting a varied cast of colourful characters on the way, from marauding purple puppets to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), from Father Christmas to Julian and Sandy (of Round the Horne radio fame), and even the President of the United States himself!

The show does throw up a few production challenges. Hot air balloons, trains, ships and elephants must be created on stage – but with some invention, lively musical numbers and lots of humour the NQSC is proud to present its version of ‘Around the World in 80 Days-ish’ at Quorn Village Hall in December. Join us for a pre-Christmas treat!
